About

Dr. Preetima Gogoi holds a Ph.D. in History from the Centre for Historical Studies, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), awarded in October 2022. Her doctoral research, “Social, Cultural and Political Changes in Medieval Assam: A Study of their Impact on Tribal Communities (16th–18th centuries)”, under the supervision of Prof. Umesh A. Kadam, explores the intersections of culture, polity, and identity in medieval Assam. She also completed an M.Phil. from the same centre, with a dissertation on “Tribal-Peasant Continuum and Plebeian Religiosities in Medieval Assam (1550–1700)”, supervised by Prof. Rajat Datta.

Beyond academics, Dr. Gogoi is a nationally recognized Taekwondo player, having represented Assam in multiple National Championships (2005, 2006, 2010), holds a Black Belt (1st Dan, 2010) from the Taekwondo Federation of India, and continues to contribute as a Technical Assistant in district-level championships.

Participated in 79th session of Indian History Congress from 26th to 28th February, 2019, Bhopal and presented the paper titled “Rituals, Practices and Beliefs: Agrarian Cults and Plebeian religiosities in Medieval Assam (1550-1700 C.E)”.
